FOSTER-TO-ADOPT PROGRAM

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

APR is excited and committed to helping you find the right dog for your family. Our Foster-to-Adopt program allows you to select one of the available dogs in our partner Southern shelter and have a 7-day trial period to spend with the dog to ensure it is the right fit for everyone before finalizing the adoption. Once your application is processed, our team will be in touch with you to go over the process and answer any questions.

A few important details about the Foster-to-Adopt Program:

  • APR will provide one week's worth of food, collar & leash.

    • An APR volunteer will also be available to you for any questions or concerns during this time! We promise you’re not alone and we’ll be there to support you every step of the way!

  • You will have 7 days to spend with your pup to make sure it's the paw-fect fit! On the seventh day, you will need to provide APR with your decision on whether you are choosing to adopt the dog.

    • If you choose to adopt the dog, APR will coordinate with you to finalize the adoption.

    • If you choose not to adopt the dog, you agree to continue fostering the dog until an adopter is found. An APR volunteer will help guide you with setting up meet & greets and be there with you during the meet & greets so you still get to be a part of the dog's journey to a new home!

  • Please keep in mind as your new dog settles into your home, they may be scared or unsure; please be patient as they make their adjustment and reach out to APR with any questions or concerns.

SUCCESS STORIES

What Clients Say

"Ever been nervous to adopt a dog because you’ll feel stuck if something doesn’t work out? I know I was, and Awesome Paws foster to adopt program helped take away so much of my anxiety. You start by talking to the sweetest women who care so much about these dogs and go through the application process, which while rigorous, they make this process easy and safe for the pup.

Then you find a dog you want to tag and they provide the transport up to NY. The day of transport feels a little hectic but AP makes sure you have everything you need before you bring your new four legged friend home. I was probably the most neurotic foster they’ve ever dealt with, but they allowed me such grace and kindness and took all of my questions in stride.. They let me know exactly what to expect and were just a text away in case anything went sideways.

Thankfully, both my girls got along famously and it was an easy decision to adopt. Knowing that after seven days of this, if it didn’t work, Piper could go to one of these kind and compassionate individuals made me feel much better. Fostering removed some of the anxiety if the dogs didn’t get along, but Awesome Paws truly goes all the way in offering support for you and your new pup.

I found Awesome Paws after a series of heart breaks, dogs being adopted out from under me and agencies not responding or telling the whole truth. A sister agency referred me to AP when I wasn’t finding a dog I clicked with. I’m so greatful for my girl Piper and the Awesome Paws family, this was the best decision I ever made to add to my family."
